It would be fair to say that Rangers were taking a major gamble when they chose to appoint Liverpool youth coach and club legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, but he has kicked off his first foray into senior management in the best way possible.

Without a defeat under the ex-England man, the Light Blues have progressed onto the verges of the Europa League group stages and started their domestic campaign with a draw and a win.

He has also been in charge of quite a drastic overhaul of the first team squad, but working with the transfer team at Ibrox he has brought in some much needed quality, as well as shipping out some of the deadwood that was bloating the squad.

However, he has also had to manage some big personalities in the dressing room, and having to deal with that when there is plenty of speculation circling around cannot be easy – just ask Brendan Rodgers about the situation with Dedryck Boyata.

One man who has been linked with a move away has been Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, with claims from the BBC of bids from Bordeaux and interest from elsewhere – but it seems the young hitman is rather infatuated with Gerrard and his managerial abilities, which will give the club a major boost in keeping him on board during the transfer market.

He was quoted by the Daily Record as saying: “Thank God a very good manager like Steven Gerrard arrived at the club.

“He was a great player and played in many important matches in world football. He is also a good person who always wants to win and that’s reflected in the way he deals with us.

“He gives us a lot of confidence. I’m happy to work with him. It’s going really well for me at the moment. We have started the season in a good way and we remain unbeaten, which has given us belief. My relationship with him is good.”

Not only does the fact Gerrard is at Rangers help the club keep Morelos happy, but the fact he is already developing strong relationships and bonds adds another string to the manager’s ever growing bow.

He might be brand new in the dugout and only at Rangers for a couple of months but the impact he is having both on and off the pitch is quite special, and you can tell that from the way his players are speaking.

The Gerrard revolution is quite real.
