Rangers manager Steven Gerrard confirmed that he’s still after two more signings before the summer window closes.

Gerrard was talking in today’s pre-match press conference ahead of the cup game with Kilmarnock on Sunday and admitted that he was a bit light both because of injuries and in certain positions.

“We could do with a couple of bodies coming back from injury”, Gerrard said. “We can add to that before the window shuts.

“But it’s not just about the workload it’s about the positions. We do feel we’re a bit light up front. We let Josh Windass go to Wigan as everyone knows.

“He scored a lot of big goals for us last season and we want to replace those goals in the coming weeks. A centre-back too, we’re a bit light at the back.”

OPINION

It sounds like a deal for Hearts striker Kyle Lafftery is almost complete, although Gerrard straight-batted any talk of that and just referred the journalists to Craig Levein’s interview yesterday where he said a move wasn’t “inevitable”. We think it is, as does pretty much everyone else apart from Levein. That would just leave a centre-back and that’s the mystery player that Rangers fans are keen to know the identity of. Two more players would bring the number of players Gerrard has brought into the club this summer to 13 and that could end up being unlucky for Celtic. They’ve had a really quiet summer in comparison and both clubs are on an equal footing after Celtic crashed down into the Europa League play-offs too. As for Rangers, we expect Lafferty to be on the bench for Thursday’s play-off against Euro League debutants Ufa and a centre-back will follow shortly after. It’s been a great summer, one of the best in a long time for Rangers, and Gerrard looks and sounds quietly confident. Unlike Brendan Rodgers.
