A section of Rangers fans have been reacting with frustration on Twitter as lightning struck twice in the league after Ross McCrorie was sent off in the Gers’ league clash with St Mirren.

Leading 2-0 courtesy of goals from Alfredo Morelos and ConnoR Goldson, McCrorie was given his marching orders for a slide tackle on an attacking Nicolai Brock-Madsen, with the striker heading into the penalty area.

The red card is Rangers’ second in as many league matches following Morelos’ dismissal at Aberdeen last Sunday, although the striker’s red was reduced to a yellow card on appeal.

The decision left many Rangers disappointed with the ill discipline, with one Gers fan calling McCrorie a ‘liability’.

OPINION

Steven Gerrard will not be impressed with the bad discipline his players are showing after another red card for one of his senior players. The challenge from McCrorie was to deny a goalscoring opportunity and it was ultimately the right decision in dismissing the Scottish midfielder. That leaves Gerrard with another problem in terms of team selection with McCrorie now suspended after Morelos caused issues following his red card last week. Rangers managed to deal with the pressure of playing with ten men against Aberdeen and the two-goal lead against St Mirren gave them a slight advantage over their opponents which was vital in picking up maximum league points. The win takes them above Glasgow rivals Celtic which will boost the morale of the Gers fans after narrowly missing out on three points in their league opener. McCrorie is still in the early days of his playing career and will learn from his mistakes as he gains more experience but Gerrard will hope that the poor sportsmanship will be coming to an end.
