Dedryck Boyata’s agent has hit out at Celtic claiming that “he was made promises that have not been kept” in regards to a transfer.

As reported by the Daily Record, multiple clubs are interested in Boyata, with Fulham having a £9million bid rejected and La Liga side Sevilla are also interested in his signature, with the Hoops valuing him at £10million.

The Belgian’s contract expires in 12 months time and the defender can leave for nothing, which is forcing Celtic to make an imminent decision on his future.

However, the 27-year-old’s agent Jacques Lichtenstein has criticised the Hoops after he believes they promised him a transfer.

“Celtic have not responded to the interest of other clubs. Phone calls have gone unanswered. Meeting requests have been refused,” Lichtenstein told DH.

“The official offers were left unanswered, sending the message clearly that Celtic did not want to sell the player.

“When a club promises a player to be cooperative in the prospect of a transfer in the transfer window, after refusing several offers from the Premier League, it does not keep its promise, it seems obvious that they will not keep the promise if the players extends his contract.

“Dedryck is disappointed because he was made promises that have not been kept.”

OPINION

Just when Celtic thought they had this situation under control, this news comes out. Brendan Rodgers was probably hoping that this situation would blow over and he could keep the defender, then he can offer him a new deal when the new season has started. But it seems more has gone on behind the scenes than Hoops fans know about. The trouble with this situation is that Celtic will have to replace Boyata should he leave and if they do get their reported £10million valuation, that will simply not be enough to bring in a player of the same quality as the Belgian central defender. Also, the financial situation in Scotland means that the club probably doesn’t have too much more in terms of funds available, so the sale of 27-year-old would ultimately make their team weaker ahead of next season. Whatever happens, the club has certainly annoyed Boyata and his agent.
