Steven Gerrard is not slowing down after securing Rangers’ 11th signing of the summer in Borna Barisic, according to Krupa president Drasko Ilic.

He claims that he has received a bid from Rangers for Elvir Koljic, after the Bosnian striker made a red-hot start to the season with five goals in just three league games.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Lech Poznan but only made five appearances after a knee injury put him out of action.

He has two caps for Bosnia-Herzagova, both games coming in 2018.

Ilic, quoted in the Scottish Sun, confirmed the Rangers offer and said: “We have had offers from four clubs – Glasgow Rangers, Panathanaikos, Red Star in France and Waasland-Beveren.

“We are waiting for the right price. We will be patient and I am sure we will soon find the right moment.”

Good move for Rangers?

Koljic has had a stop-start career but he’s certainly started this season in scintillating form, and he has recently broken through into the Bosnia-Herzagova team. That bodes well and Gerrard seems to have a knack of spotting players from minor European leagues, after capturing Borna Barisic in what’s been acclaimed as a fantastic deal. Another striker would be one of the few remaining deals that Gerrard will be keen to get over the line before the summer transfer window ends. The 23-year-old is in the peak of his career and this could turn out to be a very good signing, price depending.

Likely to happen?

There’s always something that sets the alarm bells ringing about a club official making it known they’ve had offers for a player. It could be genuine but it could also be a way of attracting attention for a player they want to cash in on before the transfer window ends. Ilic seems pretty keen to sell, although he said he’d wait for the right prize. There’s been no indication of what that is, or what the offers is from Rangers. Rangers have said nothing about it either. Interestingly though, Koljic only has one year left on his contract and that does give his side imperative to sell now. There could be something in this, but we’d want to hear something from Rangers first.
