A section of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to drool over Daniel Sturridge after his performance in their side’s 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Torino on Tuesday night.
The former England striker was widely expected to be offloaded after being loaned out West Brom in the second half of last season follow years of struggles with injuries.
But Sturridge has impressed in season and scored yet again after coming off the bench in the second half to add to the earlier goals of Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum, to prompt eulogies from many Liverpool supporters.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Daniel Sturridge is back, scoring goals for fun. Lots of options for Klopp in attack – Mo, Mane, Firmino, Shaqiri and Sturridge. Squad looks brilliant. I still feel we need another CB though. #LFC

I feel the talent and skill of #Sturridge in my heart. The rest is hoping that he has an opportunity to be healthy and injury free. If he does then no one will stand in the way of #LFC

I told myself I wouldn’t do it.
But I am now fully on the Sturridge hype train. Come one, come all. The train leaves on Sunday and there are still plenty of open seats. #LFC pic.twitter.com/XxVLyqxXwt— Matt Thielen (@MelwoodDaily) August 8, 2018
Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane, Salah, and Sturridge can almost literally play ANYWHERE in attack, whether it be striker, winger, or even as a 10. This is going to drive defenders absolutely insane. Their fluidity up front will be exactly the time of versatility we have lacked! #LFC

Fears for the season? Fabinho, can he cope with the pressures? Backup for Bobby unless Ings stays. Happy about? Sturridge looking good, backup for Mané and Salah, Keita brings balance #LFC

It’s great to see that Shaqiri and Sturridge complementing each other’s play. More of the same in the Premier League #LFC

Sturridge has really impressed me this pre season. He looks sharp and very happy. Hopefully he can regain that season he had in 13/14. Badboy striker on his day! #LFC

Sturridge would get in to the starting 11 for any other club apart from Manchester City #LFC

COMMENTARY:
Given his talent and ability, it must be difficult for Sturridge to be on the fringes of the team, even one packed with such an abundance of attacking flair as Liverpool. He appeared nailed on for a summer exit just a few weeks back, with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah the established forward starters in Jurgen Klopp’s side. But the 28-year-old has got fans excited and back on his side – some never left it – with his performances in a convincing pre-season in which Jurgen Klopp’s side have won all seven matches and scored 26 goals. Supporters don’t yet see him as a possible starter in the opening league matches, but believe he can be a blue-chip back-up for the main men as hopes intensify the Reds can end their three-decade league trophy drought.
