Rangers manager Steven Gerrard must switch up his formation and axe Ovie Ejaria if he wants to field his best possible line-up against St Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday.

In what should be one of the more straightforward Scottish Premiership games of the season for the Gers, Gerrard must keep in mind that he has a hugely important trip to Maribor on Thursday night so should make several changes to keep his side as fresh as possible.

Ejaria though, despite being a mainstay since arriving on loan from Liverpool by appearing in all games under Gerrard, should be axed after a few poor performances.

Borna Barisic, Glenn Middleton and Umar Sadiq should come into the side, all to earn their league debuts for Rangers while as well as Ejaria, Jon Flanagan and Ryan Kent must be rested.

Allan McGregor should keep his spot in goal behind a back-four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and debutant Barisic.

Scott Arfield and Lassana Coulibaly are by far the best available central midfielders and should start together in the middle of the pitch in a 4-4-2 formation.

Middleton should start out on the left to earn his full debut for the Gers, leaving Jamie Murphy out of the side while the ever-reliable Daniel Candieas is a shoe-in to start on the rigth.

Alfredo Morelos has started this season well but against St Mirren, Gerrard should take the chance to see how well he can play alongside Sadiq, who looks as though he should be able to link up very well with the Colombian.
