Serie A giants Napoli are in the hunt to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims on their website that the European club are hoping to sign a new shot-stopper before the end of the transfer window and also have Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet in their sights.

Spurs senior player Vorm, 34, signed a new deal at the club in June, extending his stay until next summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino has three goalkeepers in his squad and losing Vorm would not be a massive blow.

As well as the Dutchman he has Hugo Lloris and the rarely-seen Paulo Gazzanigga, plus a number of young shot-stoppers hoping to make the step up from the club’s youth set-up.

Vorm was hardly impressive in his 11 appearances across all competitions last season and it would not be a bad idea to cash in on him now rather than losing him for free next year.

Gazzanigga can step up to be second-choice and whoever Pochettino deems to be the best Under-23s goalkeeper can be third-choice.

Likely to happen?

Even though Spurs have plenty of goalkeeper options if Vorm was to leave, Pochettino likes to have three and no less.

He spent most of last summer chasing down Gazzanigga, even though he has only made one appearance since joining, so it is unlikely that he will let Vorm go as he will not be able to sign a replacement.
