Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani admitted that he will sell the Yorkshire club if he fails to lead them to promotion to the Premier League within the next few years.

Radrizzani took majority control of United in May of last year as he bought out the remaining shares owned by Massimo Cellino.

However in his first season in charge at Leeds, the club went backwards and struggled to a mid-table finish despite topping the table earlier on in the campaign.

And unless promotion to the Premier League is achieved with in the coming years, Radrizzani will more than likely sell up.

“If I don’t go up after a few years then I’ll sell because it means my cycle is done and someone else should do it. It’s a loss-making league and it’s not fun to put money every year into a business that loses money,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The club needs money always in this league. In the last 12 months we made a lot of investment in the first team and youth team but still we can’t reach break even in this upcoming season. We still need resources.”

OPINION

Leeds underwent a major overhaul last summer and director of football Victor Orta was responsible for buying some truly awful players as he opted for quantity over quality to strengthen the squad. Radrizzani got off to a good start himself though by buying back Elland Road and making a really good impression with the fans. However that soon unraveled as results got worse. His Twitter outbursts out Wolves were embarrassing and the controversy surrounding the post-season trip to Myanmar was also an unwelcome bit of publicity. This summer he has hired Marcelo Bielsa, who certainly could lead the Whites back to the top-flight. Transfer progress has been slow but some good deals are finally starting to get sealed. Can Leeds go up this season? The Championship has never been tougher, but with a manager like Bielsa, they must certainly be considered.
