West Ham’s summer signing spree could reach astonishing heights by Thursday’s 5pm cut-off, according to the Evening Standard.

The regional newspaper claim the London club are working on deals to sign six different players in the next 72 hours after already bringing in seven senior recruits in the current window.

The Standard name Arsenal striker Lucas Perez, Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario and £30million-valued Porto attacker Moussa Marega as three West Ham are looking to bring in as part of a late burst.

OPINION

To say West Ham mean business this summer is something of an understatement. The club, who have talked the talk in recent years but so rarely walked the walk (certainly, since the signings of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini in 2015), are now marked by their ambition and decisiveness. They have become the new Everton, spending big on players with serious reputations both in the Premier League and across Europe. The likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Issa Diop and Jack Wilshere are all landmark captures, but it appears Manuel Pellegrini is far from done yet. Crucially, the Chilean has the backing of the board, who have backed him in the market like no other Hammers boss has been before. A proven centre-forward appears to be one of Pellegrini’s remaining priorities, amid doubts over the fragile Andy Carroll as he looks for a reliable alternative to Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, who prefers the freedom to operate all over the front line.
