Tottenham are set to secure the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish as they prepare to splash the cash on the first capture of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Matt Scott.

The reporter, who writes for the Guardian and ESPN among other publications, claims on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening (7 August) that the English maestro is to put pen to paper on a move from the midlands to north London on Wednesday (8 August).

It is stated that Daniel Levy has had to pay in excess of £20million for the 22-year-old’s capture, having seen his hopes of securing a bargain scuppered by a takeover at Villa Park.

Opinion

Well it looks as though the most spoken story of the summer transfer window is finally reaching its conclusion, and it is about time after so much speculation about what was going to happen with Grealish. The Villa midfielder seemed certain to make the move at the height of the club’s financial meltdown but having been saved by new investors, his exit seemed much less certain. Now though, with negotiations between Levy and the new men in at Villa Park having taken place, it looks as though the switch is back on – albeit for a price tag in excess of what the Spurs man might have been hoping to pay earlier in summer. Let this be a lesson to Tottenham, who are known to try and make the most of every single penny whether buying or selling. Their transfer tactics have not worked in their favour, and although they may still be getting the man they wanted, their other business might have taken a hit as a result of the cost.
