Tottenham are close to sealing a part-exchange deal with Aston Villa involving Jack Grealish and Josh Onomah, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim Spurs have tabled a £25million bid for Englishman Grealish, 22, after weeks of talks as Mauricio Pochettino finally looks set to get his man in the final hours of the Premier League transfer window.

The Sun report that Tottenham attacking midfielder Onomah is set to head to the Championship big hitters as part of the deal.

OPINION

The capture of Grealish would certainly be a landmark signing for Tottenham following what has been a fallow window in which they have not brought in any senior recruits to date. The possibility of Onomah heading to Villa Park as part of the deal has not been mentioned at all up to this point and represents quite a potential coup for the second-tier club, although it is not made clear whether the young Spurs would go on loan again or permanently. The Tottenham academy product spent last season on loan at Villa, scoring four goals and supplying three assists from 37 matches in all competitions and is at a stage in his career – he turned 21 in April – when he needs to be playing regularly. Grealish is in a different class to Onomah because of his ability to unpick defences and turn them inside out with moments of magic and super quick feet. He could be a sensation if Pochettino and his staff can smooth the rough edges out of his game.
