Tottenham, who are yet to make a signing this summer, are required to pay £45 million to sign Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to the Watford Observer.

The newspaper revealed on their website that Spurs will need to break their transfer record to land the French midfielder after a superb Premier League campaign at Vicarage Road, which has sparked interest from a number of high-profile clubs.

Watford’s projected valuation for the 25-year-old is intended to end interest from the Premier League’s top sides but Spurs, who have not been involved in any transfer activity this summer, will be keen to bringing a new face to the club.

Good move for Tottenham?

The price tag is incredibly high for a player who has had one strong season in the Premier League and this could result in Spurs searching for somebody else.

However, with just a week left before the window shuts, Tottenham need to act fast and signing Doucoure would be better than failing to sign anyone.

On the other hand, it is not guaranteed that Doucoure is going to be a success at the North London club and paying a club record fee is a huge gamble.

Likely to happen?

Alarm bells should be ringing by now for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has no new fresh faces through the doors.

Watford will be desperate to keep their star man for another season after playing an integral role in the Hornets’ squad last term.

Tottenham have missed out on opportunities this summer to sign better players than Doucoure and paying £45 million would be seen as a panic buy.
