A section of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight that the club will reportedly make a fresh attempt to negotiate a contract with Toby Alderweireld.
Belgian outlet HLN claim Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to offer the Belgium defender a new long-term deal after he rejected an extension earlier this year.
Many Tottenham supporters are desperate for Alderweireld, 29, to commit to the club after intense speculation this summer that he would quit to join one of Europe’s big spenders.

COMMENTARY:
The outpouring of love from Spurs fans towards Alderweireld is genuine, extensive and heartfelt. There is seemingly barely a supporter of the club on social media who is not desperate for the player to commit to a new contract with the club. It appeared inevitable earlier this summer than the Belgian was heading for the Tottenham exit door, and a big section of supporters were preparing to bid farewell to one of the club’s best-value signings of the modern era. But, to the delight of the masses, Manchester United did not match Daniel Levy’s valuation of the 29-year-old and he has smoothed out the issues with Pochettino that led him to be frozen out of the first team in the second half of last season. Now firmly back on board, Alderweireld has started the last two Spurs matches and was outstanding in Monday’s 3-0 win at Manchester United. To say fans want him tied to a long-term deal is the understatement of the year.

This is a good move. It will cost a lot more to replace him.

about bloody time to…bloke is pure class and maybe levy can see his true value to the team rather than his balance sheet..
