A number of Tottenham fans have been left raving on Twitter after it was revealed that midfielder Harry Winks has had his first team shirt number switched from 29 to 8.
The Lilywhites confirmed via their official Twitter account and website that Winks, as well as fellow young English talent Kyle Walker-Peters, had his number changed from last season for the current campaign, with the full back taking the number 16 shirt after previously having had the 37 shirt.

The decision to switch Winks to a single digit figure has gone down extremely well with the Tottenham faithful, although there were plenty suggesting he should have taken the number 40 shirt so he could be ‘forty winks’.https://twitter.com/NathanStannard/status/1027996570439102464https://twitter.com/NathanStannard/status/1027996570439102464

Opinion
Winks was an absolute revelation in the first team last season and had injuries not cut his campaign short he would have almost certainly gone to Russia with England – that is how impressive he was. Handing him the number eight shirt has gone down a storm with fans and it is clear to see why. The number he has been given signifies regular first team action and that is exactly what the supporters want to see after his woes during the second half of last season. He might not be fit enough to start the upcoming campaign but once he has recovered then he will no doubt be in with a shout of more action under Mauricio Pochettino. Can Winks live up to the heights he has set himself after dazzling last season? The only worry will be that the injury blow has dented his confidence, and he will need some time to get himself back to performing regularly.
