The first team to not make a senior signing in the transfer window since 2003, a stadium that is not yet fit for purpose and the possibility of having to postpone a game because of a lack of ground – Tottenham are quickly becoming the Premier League’s laughing stock.

While Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino might point to last seasons third place finish, an impressive Champions League performance and the numerous new contracts which have been signed by both the players and the manager himself, it goes little way to satiating the fans’ desire for progress.

The new stadium, which saw Spurs depart White Hart Lane and take up residency at Wembley last season, was meant to be the striking symbol of the club’s development over the past couple of years, but with the Premier League already underway, it has been already been confirmed that home games at the start of October will be played at their temporary home with work yet to finish on the upgraded ground.

However, as if that was not enough, the Daily Mail report that the Lilywhites are facing the ignominy of being forced to postpone a clash with title holders Manchester City, penned in for October 28, as a result of the club lacking a venue to host the game, in what is a fresh twist in the ongoing issue.

After all the success of recent years, this just brings Spurs crashing back down to earth, and leaves them looking like amateurs among the elite of the top flight.

While there are other clubs who might be suffering behind-the-scenes, or even on-field, issues, no one is having the disaster that Tottenham are – and for the fans of those 19 other Premier League sides, at least they know their team are not in the embarrassing situation the north Londoners are in.
