Former Premier League midfielder and current pundit Robbie Savage has torn into Tottenham for their lack of business in the transfer window and worries about the dressing room morale in his pre-season prediction.

The Lilywhites head into the new campaign without a single new face among their ranks after the transfer window slammed shut on Thursday afternoon, although most notably have not lost any of their senior stars.

Delivering his verdict on how he think the summer went for Mauricio Pochettino, he was extremely critical, and predicts a drop from last season’s third place finish to a spot outside of the top four.

He wrote on the Mirror’s website: “How can Spurs expect to challenge for the title if they don’t spend a penny in the summer window? It’s a nonsense.

“Yes, they have kept Harry Kane and Dele Alli, but if I was a big-name player in that dressing room, I would be wondering why everyone else in the top six has strengthened except us. And moving into a new stadium isn’t always a bed of roses, either.”

Opinion

Savage is saying what every other football fan out there is thinking. How much of a mistake have Spurs made here by not bringing in some new recruits to strengthen their team? They were some way off Manchester City at the top of the table back in May, and are they really believing that the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and the rest of the squad can improve their performances enough to close the gap? By sticking with what they have, they can only expect to finish where they did, and considering their rivals have been busy over summer, they face a serious fight to finish third yet again. The move to their new stadium will be a good move in the long run but right now it is looking as though it has harmed their chances of keeping Champions League football in the Lilywhite half of north London.
