Levy leaving it late hurts Tottenham again

A lot of blame has been launched the way of Tottenham managing director Daniel Levy after the club suffered a barren transfer window – the first club since 2003 not to make a senior signing in the summer – and it appears as though he has cost the club yet again with another blunder.

With the new stadium on its way – although that is another controversy in itself – it seems as though Spurs did not have the cash to splash, and were reliant on making a few sensible purchases to just give Mauricio Pochettino’s side a lift.

The transfer kitty could well have been boosted had the club managed to offload some of the deadwood and wantaway players – with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Vincent Janssen all touted for the exit door – but there were no meaningful departures either.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce said that had Spurs carried out their transfer business sooner, then Jack Grealish would have certainly joined, and the same applies for getting people out the door – a decision which is going to cost Tottenham now.

The Sun claim that outcast striker Janssen, who has not been given a squad number this season and was likely to leave before the end of August, has suffered an injury blow which looks set to keep him out until Christmas, ruining his chances of a move and meaning Tottenham have got a player they do not want on their wage books.

Had Levy worked harder at getting players out the door, negotiating with other clubs instead of waiting around, this situation would not have happened, and Janssen could be elsewhere, Spurs clearing his wages and getting some funds to reinvest.

This is another massive blunder from the Tottenham chief, and there must be some sort of inquest into what he has actually done for the club this summer.
