Dele Alli must score twelve to fifteen goals each season if Tottenham are to challenge for Premier League titles and if so, he could break a top-flight record.

The English midfielder got off the mark for Spurs with the match winner in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle and goals will be important from the youngster for the club to challenge for future silverware.

Alli got his league campaign off to a flying start with another first-time finish against the Magpies but, after scoring nine times last season, needs more goals in his locker for Spurs to mount a serious charge for their maiden Premier League title.

Former Spurs striker, Robbie Keane said, as quoted by Sky Sports: “Alli’s always going to score goals because he gets in such great positions.

“We saw that against Newcastle and it was the same at the World Cup. I can see him having a big season this year, scoring a lot of goals to help take the burden of (Harry) Kane a bit.”

The 22-year-old must showcase his form from two years ago, after netting an impressive 18 goals in a breakthrough season for the attacking midfielder.

Although Kane will always guarantee Spurs options in attack, they must not depend on their star striker for all the goals.

The Premier’s League highest scoring midfielder, Frank Lampard has played many crucial parts in Chelsea’s title-winning squads and netted ten or more goals for ten consecutive seasons in a glittering career.

If Alli can remain fit and offer his attacking qualities, there is no doubt that he can continue his form for years to come. Many forget that Alli is still in the development phases of his career at the age of 22 and has not hit his peak form yet.

Lampard’s 177 goals will be a challenge to catch but with Alli playing alongside top quality players on a regular basis, he should be on course to break the record if he can continue to keep playing at the highest level.
