Stan Collymore has said that while he likes the Tottenham approach to transfers, it’s time for Daniel Levy to “open that wallet!”
Collymore was talking on his personal twitter account on Sunday afternoon, and was asked by a fan what he made of the situation at Spurs.
The fan said it felt like a real missed opportunity and that Spurs could get left behind after not spending this summer, while all their rivals have strengthened.
Collymore said that Tottenham’s policy on promoting youth and doing things “properly” was admirable, but pointed out that in an “environment where Palace pays Benteke £130k-a-week”, properly goes out of the window.
He finished with an emphatic: “Daniel needs to open that wallet!”
I like Spurs because they're determined not to haemorrhage money ( especially post Bale spend spend spend), promote youth and do things "properly".
In an environment where Palace pays Benteke 130k pw though, "properly" goes put if the window.

OPINION
Collymore is right here, there’s “properly” and then there’s delivering trophies. Tottenham have definitely taken a step back this summer. All their Premier League rivals have strengthened and, so far, Spurs have brought nobody in. It looks like Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and possibly Mousa Dembele could all leave and that would free up a huge amount of money, but will Levy give it to Mauricio Pochettino to spend? And will he have time to bring in top quality recruits before the transfer window shuts on Thursday? Levy has always left things late in the hopes of picking up a bargain but this is pushing things even by his standards. If they don’t bring anyone in, we think they will struggle to hold onto a top-four spot next season and that would be disastrous. Their new stadium looks incredible but fans want to see new players, and they definitely want to see Champions League football at this new home in north London. And, in a world where Crystal Palace can reportedly pay £130k-a-week for Christian Benteke, a striker who only scored three Premier League goals last season, “properly’ has most definitely jumped through the window.
