Michael Owen predicted Leicester City to defeat Southampton when the two sides meet at St Mary’s on Saturday.

The former Liverpool forward shared that even without Jamie Vardy in their side, he felt the Foxes would have enough to take all three points when they play Mark Hughes’ side.

Owen went on to share that he was happy to see Danny Ings score for the Saints against Everton last weekend and tipped the player to become a big asset for his side if he avoided injury.

“Leicester must do without Jamie Vardy, following his red card against Wolves, at St Mary’s but I still feel they will take all three points on the south coast,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.

“It was good to see Danny Ings back among the goals at Goodison on Saturday and, if the striker can be kept off the treatment table, he will be a big asset to Southampton.

“The Foxes played well at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season, however, and I feel they will take all three points against the Saints.”

OPINION

This is a bold prediction by Owen as not only is he expecting the Foxes to get a win on the road, he is backing them to do it without their star attacker. It’s understandable why he has been impressed enough by Leicester City in their opening two games to make such a prediction as they looked good against Manchester United despite suffering a defeat and achieved a comfortable 2-0 win over Wolves last weekend. However the Saints will be eager to get their first win on the board after drawing with Burnley and being handed a defeat courtesy of the Toffees last weekend. With Vardy missing due to being suspended then the belief amongst the Saints players that they can take advantage of that, could see easily see them make their home advantage count on Saturday in order to get the win. It will be an interesting clash between the two sides this weekend as not only should it be a close encounter, it’ll be intriguing to see how the Foxes cope without having Vardy to count on to get their side goals.
