Nottingham Forest were taken to penalties in the EFL Cup first round against Bury after keeper Jordan Smith was sent off early on.

Forest just got past their League Two opponents 10-9 on penalties but they were not helped by the performance of first-choice goalkeeper Smith.

Smith only lasted 33 minutes before being sent off for a foul outside the box on Bury forward Dominic Telford. Before this the 6ft 1in keeper had already drawn the ire of the Forest fans after conceding just two minutes into the match.

The Forest faithful were quick to question Smith’s role at the club and share their feelings on his questionable performance.

One fan wanted Smith out of the club immediately while others were to the point and just stated that he was awful. Other fans were even less complimentary towards the shot stopper who was replaced in goal by Luke Steele who came on for Hillal Soudani.

Here are the best reactions from Forest fans to Smith’s display:

OPINION
Jordan Smith has not covered himself in glory here, lasting 33 minutes in the first cup game of the season and still managing to concede a cheap goal in that time. Not only did he let Forest go behind after only two minutes but he put them at an even worse disadvantage by getting sent off. For the rest of the game his teammates had to battle on with only 10 men. It may be a bit harsh after one bad performance to demand he never play for the club again but the fans are right to be angry. It may not be the most important cup of the season, but fans always appreciate a good cup run and Smith jepodised that almost immediately. It’s going to take something special for Smith to get back on the fan’s good side and Aitor Karanka now has a decision to make on who his number one is.
