Newcastle United drew 0-0 against Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and some fans have taken to Twitter to rip into Javier Manquillo for his poor display.
The Spanish right-back was brought into the starting XI after DeAndre Yedlin suffered a minor knee injury against Tottenham last weekend, but failed to impress before being hauled off injured at half-time.
Newcastle went down to ten men after a red card for Isaac Hayden but should have won the game in the last minute after being given a penalty for handball, but Kenedy missed the spot-kick.
Some Newcastle fans have now slammed the 24-year-old Spaniard for his lacklustre performance against the Bluebirds.
This is Futbol have rounded up some of the best tweets:
Manquillo is awful, should never wear that black and white jersey again. #embarrassing

Manquillo managing to make yedlin look like Cafu in that first 45 #NUFC

Manquillo is quite possibly one of the poorest defenders we've ever had.
Can anyone think of worse? I get to Boumsong and Marcelino and then I'm done.

Good decision, Manquillo was awful! Disaster waiting to happen! #NUFC #CARNEW

Absolute dire first half, so flat. No creativeness, no nothing. Manquillo couldn’t cut it in league 1 by this performance. Shelvey the only one looking to make a difference, Kenedy 100% going to get banned for total head loss. #nufc

Manquillo has been shocking against Murphy in the first half #NUFC

Manquillo is an actual joke of a footballer, couldn’t hack it in the championship let alone the premier league. I reckon Kenedy must be a UFC fan.

Don’t like ragging on players but Manquillo really is dreadful. Can’t think of a positive to his first half performance. Booked, beaten repeatedly by Murphy, poor positional play from open play and set pieces, no attacking threat. #nufc

OPINION
These Newcastle fans are evidently angry with Manquillo and his mediocre display against Cardiff, with the Spaniard failing to take his chance after being promoted to the starting XI. However, while it was indeed a poor performance from the wide man, not many Magpies players emerged with much credibility from their first-half display against the Bluebirds. It was a bad display all round for Rafa Benitez’s men, who struggled to string anything of note together. Cardiff’s direct approach seemed to cause problems throughout the match, and that will be a concern for Benitez going forward. With regards to Manquillo himself, it is probably fair to say that, barring injury, he will struggle to get another real chance at St. James’ Park. The former Liverpool right-back has failed to show that he has what it takes to compete at this level, and will likely occupy the bench for most of this season.
