Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign £50million-rated Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng, according to the Daily Mail, and the Red Devils should consider signing the defender in order to improve their defence.

The newspaper claim on the website that the 6ft 2in (transfermarkt) centre-back is willing to be sold by Bayern and United should not be wasting a second to strengthen their defence before the new season.

The Red Devils lack a world-class centre back and Boateng, a World Cup winner with Germany, fits that calibre after starring for Bayern Munich over the years, winning numerous trophies including the Champions League.

According to the Express, Man United have been chasing Leicester and Tottenham this summer in their attempts to sign Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld respectively but seem to be getting nowhere with either transfer target to join the club.

Although Boateng did not enjoy the best of World Cups in Russia this summer but United still need to respect Boateng as one of the best centre-backs in world football and a move would likely see the ex-Man City player move straight into the starting eleven, ahead of English pair Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea prevented many goals being conceded and his brilliance helped out his defensive team mates who had left their goalkeeper exposed on numerous occasions.

Bringing in Boateng would eradicate the issues and would ease supporters knowing that they have a highly experienced player that they can trust and rely on.
