Everton have launched a bid of nearly £30million to try and sign Manchester United and Argentina international Marcos Rojo this summer, according to Ole.

The Argentinian publication claim in their print edition (Thursday, August 2) that the Toffees have tabled an offer of £29.3million (€33million) for the 59 cap centre back, and that their north west rivals are set to accept it.

However, despite Rojo being open to leaving Old Trafford, it is stated that the 28-year-old is seeking a pay rise on his current wages, which is reportedly the only stumbling block between the defender making a move to Goodison Park before the end of the transfer window.

Good move for Everton?

Signing a wantaway defender for a price tag of £30million goes to show just how much prices have rocketed in the transfer market, and quite frankly Everton are getting something of a bum deal here.

Rojo, while a talented centre back, is not worth the sort of money Manchester United are asking for, but perhaps it goes to show the Toffees’ desperation that they are seemingly willing to splash out.

He will be an improvement on the current options on Merseyside, plus his experience will help bolster a leaky back line, but the fee just makes this one not value for money.

Likely to happen?

It sounds as though all parties are happy for the move to go through, with Rojo’s wages the final thing to be sorted before it goes through.

Fans have already seen deals collapse this summer when it comes to personal terms and so this is by no means a done deal, but it sounds as though things are progressing with a week left of the window.

With there being no rush right now, negotiations can progress at a steady pace and a deal should be worked out over the coming days.
