Divock Origi could be heading for the Liverpool exit door before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month following Daniel Sturridge’s rejuvenation, according to Sky Sports.

In an analysis of 10 players in line to quit the Premier League before the 31 window cut-off, the broadcaster name the Belgium international as a possible departee.

Sky Sport that “Sturridge’s strong pre-season showing could spell trouble for Origi” after he spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg and was omitted from the Liverpool squad for their opening-day 4-0 demolition of West Ham.

With not only the holy trinity of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane blocking Origi’s first-team path, the Belgian also has to contend with the versatile Xherdan Shaqiri and revitalised Sturridge for the coveted attacking slots in Jurgen Klopp’s side. Origi is an orthodox centre-forward, but is, at best, third choice for that position behind main man Firmino and Sturridge, who came off the bench to score with his first touch at Anfield last weekend. The 28-year-old is only ever a strong gust of wind away from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but he looks fit and dynamic after a pre-season full of goals, vim and vigour. Origi has slipped down the pecking order in the last two years after appearing at one time to have cracked it at Anfield. The 6ft 1in front man (source: Transfermarkt) has lost form and confidence, and would benefit from joining a team where he would be the first choice number one and could get a regular run of starts.
