Jürgen Klopp is considering letting defender Ragnar Klavan leave Liverpool before the end of August, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Klavan has now entered the final year of his contract and is keen to get more regular first-team football, a request the Liverpool manager seems happy to grant.

The 32-year-old, who has just got back to fitness after a recent hamstring issue, and is surplus to requirements at Anfield, with Joel Matip now back in full training and Dejan Lovren only expected to be out for a few weeks, while Joe Gomez has continued to impress alongside star man Virgil van Dijk.

A return to the Bundesliga seems most likely for the 6ft 2in enforcer with Europe’s transfer deadline not until the end of this month, and the defender has previously played there for FC Augsburg before his £4.2million move in 2016.

If the right move doesn’t appear then it is likely that Liverpool will activate their option to extend the Estonians contract a further 12-months, with Klopp regarding him as a model professional.

OPINION
Ragnar Klavan has never set the world alight in his time at Liverpool but he has been relatively consistent in his performances and has continued to play professionally even when the Liverpool defence has come under major criticism. Over the last two seasons he has racked up 53 appearances in total and been involved in 11 league clean sheets. Now that the Reds have Van Dijk and Joe Gomez has broken through into the first team, many fans will forget about the Estonian and won’t even think about his departure, however before the arrival of Van Dijk and during the troubled defending times Klavan soldiered on trying to keep the ship afloat before the Dutchman took the helm. A return to the Bundesliga not only seems the most likely but is probably the best option for Klavan now. He is familiar with the league and could slot right back in and plenty of the mid-table teams could do with a solid centre-back.
