Liverpool remain in talks to sign Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir before deadline day, according to Bleacher Report.

The football site claim negotiations between the Premier League giants and their French counterparts “have never totally gone away” and the Merseyside giants are continuing to chip away in the hope of reaching a sensational late agreement.

Bleacher Report state Fekir, 25, wants a move to Anfield to happen but Liverpool’s hopes of resurrecting the deal have been frustrated by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who keeps moving the goalposts.

Good move for Liverpool?

Definitely. Fekir is a playmaker of quality and pedigree, who had the best season of his career for Lyon in 2017-18, when his 23 goals and eight assists from 40 appearances in all competitions demonstrated how why he has become one of Europe’s most in-demand playmakers. It is a position Liverpool are somewhat lacking in following star quality the January transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Xherdan Shaqiri has been signed for a bargain price and he is capable of matchwinning moments, but he does not dictate the tempo of a game or unlock defences in the way that Coutinho did, and Fekir can do. Should Liverpool get this deal done, the Internet would break.

Likely to happen?

There appears to be too much bad blood between Liverpool and Lyon to secure an agreement by Thursday evening. It is clear the player would love the move, after undergoing a medical in June before the Merseysiders tried to restructure a deal that had been agreed at £53million. Can it still happen? Crazier deals have gone through in the last hours of transfer windows as clubs get desperate and players engineer transfers, but Aulas would need to meet Liverpool in the middle.
