Everton have reignited talks to sell Ademola Lookman to RB Leipzig after a dramatic U-turn, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim the Merseysiders had been unwilling to allow the winger, 20, to leave earlier in the week but have now “softened their stance” following fresh taks with the player’s representatives.

The Mirror report Lookman wants to quit Everton and return to Leipzig after a succesful 2017-18 loan but have made it clear it will take a £30million fee, three times what they paid for him, to get the deal done.

Good move for Everton?

On the face of it, the Premier League club would have pulled off a blinder if they secure a £20million profit in 18 months on a youngster who has made just 24 senior appearances, scoring three goals. But the situation is not that simple with Lookman. He is a star-in-the-making with the potential to be an England regular in years to come, as well as a Premier League sensation. He showed in the Bundesliga in the second half of last season, when he scored five goals and supplied four assists from 11 matches, that he not only has huge potential but can destroy defences here and now. Everton might make a lordly profit if they let the England Under-21 international leave but his value will surely only increase if he plays regularly and thrives.

Likely to happen?

It’s important to point out that Everton have plenty of time to weigh up bids for Lookman. The window for signings might close tomorrow, but Premier League clubs can sell to the major European leagues until 31 August, the traditional cut-off. Assuming the Toffees add Bernard to the attacking signing of Richarlison, Lookman could well leave before the month is out.
