Everton boss Marco Silva is lining up a move for free agent midfielder Claudio Marchisio following his exit from Juventus, according to Kick Off.

The football website report that Silva is mulling an audacious swoop for Marchisio as he looks to offer the Italy international a final challenge before his career comes to a close.

Kick Off claim that the deal could happen soon with Premier League clubs still permitted to sign free agents, although a move to the MLS has been heavily touted for the 32-year-old midfield lynchpin.

Marchisio won 14 major trophies during his time at Juventus, including seven Serie A titles.

Good move for Everton?

Absolutely.

Marchisio is a highly experienced central midfielder who would be a brilliant addition for any Premier League side, especially on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old may be coming towards the end of his career but he is still a fantastic operator in the middle of the park, and his experience would be much welcome in a relatively young Everton dressing room.

All in all, this is a no-brainer for Silva if he can pull it off.

Likely to happen?

You would unfortunately be inclined to think not.

Marchisio has been linked with a big-money move to the MLS, and after leaving Juventus after 25 years, now looks like a good time for him to call time on his career in Europe and head stateside.

That being said, the Italian maestro may be keen to take on a new challenge and remain at the highest level, which would put Everton firmly in the picture for his signature.

All that the Toffees can do is register their interest and hope for the best.
