A number of Everton fans have turned to Twitter to express their frustration at seeing midfielder Muhamed Besic secure a loan reunion with Middlesbrough.

The Toffees confirmed on their official Twitter account that the 25-year-old Bosnian international had agreed terms to a season long loan deal with the Championship side, having spent part of the last campaign at the Riverside Stadium as well.

Among the messages of good luck, some of the Goodison Park faithful were disappointed to see him head out the door, with one fan believing he was a better option than Morgan Schneiderlin in the middle of the park.

Opinion

Besic obviously made the right impression at Middlesbrough as the north east outfit take him on loan for another season, and the fans’ reactions show that they feel Everton could have done with someone of his ilk in the first team. It is of course a loan move, which leaves the door open for a return to the senior side at some point in the future, but considering his age, this is not exactly a move to help him develop. Instead it appears as though he is simply surplus to requirements to Marco Silva and that, with the transfer window having already closed, a loan move to the second tier of English football was the best deal for both player and club – the fact he already has experience with Boro being an added bonus. It would be a big surprise to see him earn his spot back in the Everton first team but stranger things have indeed happened.
