Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic is set to complete a permanent move back to former loan side Middlesbrough for a fee in the region of £6million, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their Twitter account that the 25-year-old is to make the move back up to the north east after having spent the latter half of last season on loan at the Riverside, reuniting with his old team mates.

It is stated that there is a seven-figure fee being paid by the Championship side, bringing an end to his four year stay at Goodison Park, having signed from Ferencvaros back in 2014.

Opinion

Besic’s time on Merseyside always looked like it would come to an end this summer and sending him back to a club which he knows and was settled in with last season seems best for all parties. He might not have set the world alight while with the Toffees but that is the risk that is taken when securing the signing of foreign players unproven in the top flight. At 25, he still has plenty of time to push on with Boro and perhaps even get the Teesiders back into the Premier League after some time away from England’s elite. Failing that, if he impresses enough down in the second tier a team might be tempted to give him another chance at a higher level, and prove to Everton what they have missed out on. Right now though, his move away is best for both the player and the club, and he will be wished all the best as he returns to Boro on a permanent deal.
