Chelsea defender Matt Miazga has joined French side FC Nantes on loan.

The Ligue One side confirmed the loan move on their official Twitter account.

The seven-times USA international joins Nantes on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

The 23-year-old leaves Stamford Bridge having made just two senior appearances since his move from the New York Red Bulls in January 2016.

OPINION

This is yet another pointless signing by Chelsea that has been farmed out on loan with the hope of getting a higher transfer fee than they paid for him. They bought the American defender in January 2016 for a reported £4.1million, he’s made just two senior appearances and a handful of starts for the youth team and now they’re sending him to France on a loan deal with an option to buy, in the hope that he can impress enough to warrant Nantes paying more than £4.1million to make the deal permanent. Football is just business to the Blues at the moment, they might only make £1million from this transfer but to them, that is at least some money being made and they can spend it on another young player in the hope he will earn them some extra money too.  Miazga must feel a little betrayed that the club signed him and never played him, but now he’s got the chance to show his ability on a regular basis in French football.
