Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Huddersfield centre-back Michael Hefele, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed on their live transfer blog on Thursday [07:42am] that the 6ft 3in (transfermarkt) colossus would cost the Reds £350,000 but still require him to pass a medical at the City Ground.

Hefele helped Huddersfield win promotion to the Premier League just over a year ago and as reported by statistics website Spotrac, he is earning £15,000-a-week on his deal at the Yorkshire club.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Hefele would be a very good late addition to Aitor Karanka’s squad.

The German centre-back was very impressive in helping Huddersfield earn promotion last year and could very much do that again at the City Ground if Forest are able to sign him up.

£350,000 is a cheap deal too, but that is probably because the former Dynamo Dresden star spent most of last season sidelined with injuries to his knee and Achilles tendon, limiting him to just six appearances in all competitions.

Likely to happen?

While Forest look as though they are making good progress in talks to sign Hefele, there is surely going to be a lot of anticipation surrounding his medical.

The 27-year-old spent pretty much all of last season on the sidelines with different injuries and that could potentially scupper a move to Nottingham.

It’s quite rare that players fail medicals though, so there still seems to be a good chance of this deal being completed in time for the 5pm deadline.
