Newcastle United have been in talks with Monaco about a last-ditch deal to sign left-back Jorge, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed on their live transfer blog on Thursday [02:24pm] that the Magpies have made a late effort to bolster their left-back options ahead of their Premier League campaign kicking off this weekend, however they may run out of time.

The summer transfer window slams shut at 5pm, and it would more than likely take a major effort to sign the one-time Brazil international before then.

Good move for Newcastle?

Jorge would be a top signing if Rafa Benitez can pull off a deal in time.

The Magpies have very little strength in depth at left-back and one injury to Paul Dummett can cause a whole host of problems as Javier Manquillo would more than likely be the back-up.

Jorge has a couple of spells out with injury at Monaco last season, but still impressed in his 27 appearances across all competitions.

Poor players do not get into the Brazil international team and Newcastle would have done very well to sign him.

Likely to happen?

As the Daily Mail points out, time is running out for Newcastle to get this deal done in time for the 5pm transfer deadline on Thursday.

If Jorge is in Monaco, he is going to several hours away from being able to get to the North East of England and signing his deal and undergoing a medical.

It is probably not going to happen.
