Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos is reportedly a transfer target for Marseille with the Ligue 1 club lining up a bid worth over £5million for the Colombian.

However it seems as though Morelos, 22, will very much remain a Rangers player past the European transfer deadline on Friday, thanks to this latest update.

According to French news outlet Le10Sport, Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is eyeing up Morelos and is ready to table a bid worth £5.4million for the Ibrox ace.

But while the French giants want to sign Morelos, it is understood that they have “abandoned” the idea of solely relying on the former HJK Helsinki star and the hunt to sign him is not going to plan.

Morelos is such a key player in Steven Gerrard’s side and many Rangers fans will be thrilled with the news, as it seems as though Marseille will be unable to land the Colombian star before Friday’s deadline.

Since signing for the Light Blues last summer for around £1million, Morelos has scored 21 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions and it seems as though the Glasgow club’s progression can firmly revolve around his form.

He scored 14 league goals last term and was quickly hailed as a fan favourite, but there was a dip in form after the January transfer window when speculation swirled around his future.

Hopefully this shouldn’t happen now as it definitely seems as though there will be no late bids for him before Friday.

This is great news for Rangers fans and it should mean that Gerrard gets to hang on to his key players until January at least.
