Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is the most likely next player to be signed up by Everton, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that the 28-year-old Argentina international is firmly in the running to join Richarlison and Lucas Digne in moving to Goodison Park after Yahoo Sport reported that the Toffees had approached United with an enquiry about him earlier in the summer.

Rojo, who earns £110,000-a-week at Old Trafford according to statistics website Spotrac, only made 12 appearances in all competitions last season for Man United and is now rated at 4 out of 5 to be the next signing at Goodison.

Football Whispers rounds up transfer rumours from across the world and calculates the likelihood of them materialising. The chances are then rated out of five, with a higher score meaning that the transfer is more likely to happen.

OPINION

Everton’s summer business is showing signs of finally picking up with just over a week to go until the transfer window slams shut next Thursday. Marco Silva has added to his attack and defence already, but he needs to continue bolstering his backline before the Premier League season kicks off after Everton conceded more goals than relegated sides West Brom and Swansea last term. Lucas Digne is a very good addition at left-back, but the focus must now turn to finding a quality centre-back. Rojo is a decent player. He’s left-footed, can play at left-back and has experience of playing at one of the world’s biggest clubs as well as playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi with Argentina. While his CV is impressive, his injury problems are not and that could be an issue for the Toffees. Last season they suffered due to constant injuries to key men, so signing another injury-prone player is perhaps not a good idea.
