Everton could turn their attention to signing Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo with their plans to sign Yerry Mina in jeopardy, according to Yahoo Sport.

The news outlet claims that the Toffees approached United with an enquiry about the Argentina international before entering talks to sign Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina, however the Red Devils are now considering signing the Colombian this summer themselves.

It is understood that Man United’s hopes of signing Mina could derail Everton’s plans to snap up the Barca player and the Merseyside club may now resurrect their interest in Rojo.

The former Sporting CP centre-back is earning £110,000-a-week on his deal at Old Trafford according to statistics website Spotrac.

Good move for Everton?

Everton certainly need to bolster their defence before the transfer window slams shut next week, and while Rojo has not had the best of times at Old Trafford, he would be a good signing for the Toffees.

However that would only apply if the Argentine manages to keep himself fit as last season the 28-year-old only managed to make 12 appearances across all competitions.

At the World Cup, he proved with Argentina that he can still perform with some decent displays in which he managed to stay fit.

Mina should definitely still be first choice for Marco Silva, but Rojo is not a bad plan B at all.

Likely to happen?

Yahoo claims that Rojo is also wanted by Wolves, but would be interested in remain in the North West, which puts Everton at an advantage.

Man United’s desperation to add to their defence could mean that they will be able to lure Mina from the Nou Camp to Old Trafford, so a deal to sign Rojo is certainly a possibility.

He would probably demand big wages, but for someone with a lot of Premier League, Champions League and international experience, the Toffees may feel as though he is worth it.
