Leeds United are at an advanced stage of talks to sign Brighton midfielder Oliver Norwood, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed on their live transfer blog on Wednesday morning that the Whites are closing in on signing the 27-year-old Northern Ireland international for a seven-figure fee worth £1.5million.

Norwood was a key player on loan at Fulham last season as they won promotion to the Premier League, but Brighton now appear as though they are cashing in on the midfielder with him in the final year of his £12,000-a-week deal (Spotrac).

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds already have a lot of midfielders on their books, but with the way Marcelo Bielsa sets his team up to play, it would not hurt to have more options in that area of the pitch.

Norwood was in good form at Fulham last season, scoring five goals and supplying three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions as the London club won promotion via the play-offs.

He does not appear to be in the picture at Brighton and is available for what seems to be a very affordable sum.

For someone of his experience and recent track record, this is an absolute bargain for the Whites.

Likely to happen?

While talks are at an advanced stage, Leeds may have to hurry this one up a bit if they are to beat the transfer deadline by 5pm on Thursday.

It would not be a disaster if they did as they could always try to sign the midfielder on loan as Championship clubs can seal temporary deals up until the end of August.
