Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he wants up to two more signings completed before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

The Light Blues have already welcomed 11 new players to Ibrox on either permanent or loan deals, and have also seen a number of senior stars and fringe players from last season offloaded.

And while Gerrard is content with his current squad, he will not be resting until he has added his 12th and 13th additions of the transfer window.

“I am very happy with my squad of players and they are buying in to what we are trying to do. I have made no secret though if I can add another body or two, then I would be satisfied,” he said, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

OPINION

Back-to-back summer overhauls for clubs never seem to work that well, but Gerrard appears to have played a blinder at Ibrox this summer and has made vast improvements in all areas of the squad. With Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, the backline looks a lot less shaky that it did under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty last term. The attack is also starting to be more efficient with Alfredo Morelos getting more support from better quality midfielders. However if Morelos was to get an injury or a suspension – he has already seen a red card rescinded this season – then it would leave Gerrard short of options up front. For whatever reason, Umar Sadiq isn’t getting game-time and played for the Under-20s on Tuesday night. It’s likely that one of the new signings that the Rangers manager wants is a centre-forward. Could it be Kyle Lafferty? His screamer against Celtic on Saturday will make it harder to re-sign the Northern Ireland international, but with just a matter of weeks left until the transfer window closes, anything can happen.
