Anderlecht defensive midfielder Leander Denconcker has decided to snub the chance to sign for Wolves this summer, according to Foot Mercato reporter Matthieu Margueritte.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday morniing that the 23-year-old enforcer has also rejected moves to Crystal Palace and Marseille.

French news outlet RMC Sport has previously reported that Anderlecht value the Belgium international at a fee worth up to £26.6million.

OPINION

Wolves have already made some solid signings this summer and snapping up Dendoncker would have continued their hot streak in the transfer window. The Anderlecht star would more than likely be signed by Nuno Espirito Santo as a ball-playing centre-back. While he is usually a defensive midfielder, Dendoncker has shown at times that he can play in the centre of defence and move the ball up the pitch, much like what Willy Boly was doing last season in the Championship. The Belgian would certainly be an upgrade on Nuno’s current defenders but for whatever reason, he has decided to stay in Brussels rather than move to the Premier League. It’s not like Anderlecht are even in the Champions League this year either as they only managed to qualify for the Europa League. The money would certainly have been better at Wolves, Palace or Marseille, so maybe he is just showing his loyalty to the club he has been with since the age of 14.
