Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is in advanced talks to join Rotherham United on loan until January, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the two clubs are in the final stages of sealing a deal despite interest in the 20-year-old from a number of other Championship clubs.

Football Insider report Forest have granted permission for the giant midfielder to go out on loan again after he had two spells at their neighbours Notts County last season.

Good move for Forest?

Yes, assuming Yates gets regular playing time in Paul Warne’s side, who are just one point and two places behind big-spending Forest in the Championship table. The defensive midfielder, who stands at a formidable 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt), signed a new three-year contract earlier this summer but is well down the pecking order at his parent club and has just a single senior appearance under his belt since graduating from the academy ranks. However, he has accumulated valuable lower league experience at Notts County, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury Town and Barrow in the last few seasons, which has been essential to his development.

Likely to happen?

It appears that the deal is all but done, given Football Insider’s reliability and the fact that Yates is not on the verge of the Forest first team. Rotherham are not regarded as promotion rivals for the East Midlands club, who have spent £20million on rebuilding their squad for a tilt at a long-awaited return to the Premier League, and they are likely to be happy for the youngster to play for them.
