Wigan Athletic forward Nick Powell will not be moving anywhere amid interest from Leeds United, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The football correspondent reported on his personal Twitter account that Powell was not moving anywhere ‘at this time’, which suggests that a Leeds swoop for the versatile ace is off the cards.

Nixon provided this major update in response to a Whites fan enquiring about the possibility of the deal going through.

TEAMtalk claim that Leeds are among a number of Championship clubs after the former Manchester United ace, who has been in the form of his life for the Latics recently.

OPINION

This update from Nixon seems to put to bed any hopes Leeds may have had of signing Powell. While nothing can be ruled out just yet, it does look a bit of a stretch for Wigan to sell their best player to a division rival with just days remaining in the window. Obviously money talks, but unless Leeds decide to stump up a fee north of £5million then they have no hope of signing Powell, and that is quite frankly unlikely to happen at this point. There is however no doubt that Powell would be a stellar addition to this Leeds side, who have started the season with a bang under Marcelo Bielsa. His versatility would be a huge asset for the Whites going forward, and he would no doubt improve their prospects of securing that elusive promotion to the Premier League. That being said, missing out on him will not be the end of the world, with Bielsa having plenty of attacking talent at his disposal, and the Argentine may actually be better off spending money on his defence, which looks to need a bit of reinforcement before the window closes.
