Leeds United have opened talks to sign Brighton midfielder Oliver Norwood after indications the player is keen to join, according to Football Insider.

The reliable transfer site claim the Yorkshire giants are in pole position to land the Northern Ireland international despite competing interest from Swansea City and Hull City.

Football Insider report Leeds have learned the £1.5million-valued Premier League player wants to move to Elland Road as he seeks a third consecutive promotion.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes. Norwood has showed in the last two seasons at Brighton and Fulham how he can be a key player for a promotion-winning side, and his 248 Championship appearances in his career demonstrate his valuable experience at this level. The central midfielder is far more than a Eunan O’Kane style watercarrier. He is also a reliable creator and scorer of goals, netting five times from 36 league fixtures for Fulham in 2017-18. Leeds’ sale of Ronaldo Vieira raised eyebrows and heckles, but the capture of Norwood would go all the way to solving the talent deficit in the middle of the park.

Likely to happen?

Football Insider broke the Patrick Bamford transfer and dozens of other major Leeds stories and are a very reliable source when it comes to the Championship giants. With negotiations underway, it appears United are in the box seat to land Norwood, although a deal is not yet done and there is strong competing interest from their rivals. Leeds’ need is certainly considerable following the exit of Vieira and the injury to Forshaw.
