Ipswich Town have tabled an offer to re-sign Tottenham centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to a club insider.

The Lilywhite Rose Twitter account, which has broken a number of significant Spurs stories in recent times including transfers, reported on Sunday afternoon that the Championship club want to take the Spurs defender for the 2018-19 season.

Carter-Vickers spent the second half of last season on loan at Portman Road after a pre-Christmas spell at Sheffield United.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes. Mauricio Pochettino has spoken of how highly he rates the 20-year-old defender, whose form while out on loan last season was rewarded with a first outing for the US national team against Portugal last November. Standing at 6ft 1in and with the physique of a super-middleweight boxer, Carter-Vickers (source: Transfermarkt) certainly cuts a formidable presence and has scared the living daylights out of a few Championship forwards over the last 12 months. Given the calibre of centre-backs ahead of him in the Tottenham pecking order – especially now Toby Alderweireld is back in favour and appears likely to stay – Carter-Vickers is unlikely to get much game time this season. It would aid his development if he was playing regularly at a Championship club.

Likely to happen?

If Alderweireld commits to Spurs until January at least, expect the Londoners to give the green light for Carter-Vickers to spend the season at a Championship club. Ipswich appear well placed to get the rising star after he made a strong impression in 2017-18. This is a deal that is likely to go through by 31 August.
