Aston Villa will not sell Jack Grealish in this transfer window, according to Sky Sports, and Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris has said he is not interested in Tottenham’s money.

Grealish has been linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer and it looked like a deal was close, but this seems to draw a line under any prospective move until at least January.

Sky made the claim on its official Twitter page on Wednesday afternoon.

In an update on their live transfer blog (11.55am), Sky claimed that sources had told them that Aston Villa’s new executive chairman Nassef Sawiris has told Tottenham and other clubs ” he is not interested in their money”.

OPINION

You always get some late drama in transfer windows and Aston Villa’s new owners have provided it this month with this bombshell over Jack Grealish. It really looked like a deal would go through, despite the two sides still negotiating over a fee. However, it now seems that Levy playing hardball has spectacularly backfired this time after he seemingly could have got Grealish when Dr Tony Xia was still there for £25million. This doesn’t seem like a plot to chase Levy up to spending more money either – it’s a very direct statement that hints at a major falling out over the valuation of the player. Tottenham fans will be gutted, even though they were split over the merits of Grealish. It now looks like they might be the only Premier League club that might not make any significant incomings this summer. And that’s a huge blow to Mauricio Pochettino on the eve of the Premier League, which starts this weekend.
