James Tavernier could be among a quartet of Rangers players to leave Ibrox before the transfer deadline south of the border on Thursday, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims on their website that Brighton are lining up a last-gasp bid for the Gers’ defensive mainstay ahead of the 5pm cut-off in just over 24 hours’ time.

It is understood that he is not the only player who could be on his way out of Govan in the coming hours with Josh Windass the subject of  £1.4million bid from Ipswich and Greg Docherty and Jak Alnwick set for potential loan moves to England.

The Express says that Docherty is set to join League One Shrewsbury on a season-long loan, while a similar deal is on the cards for Alnwick to head to Bristol City.

OPINION

It would be a massive mistake for Rangers to cash in on Tavernier, unless they were to pocket a very good fee for the right-back. He made 46 appearances in all competitions last season, scored nine goals and supplied nine assists. The former Newcastle man has also started this season in good form by scoring twice in his five opening games. Steven Gerrard will still have most of August to find a replacement for Tavernier as the Scottish window doesn’t close until the end of the month. As for Windass, he is much more expendable and loan deals for both Docherty and Alnwick make a lot of sense. The Light Blues have a lot of central midfielders and a young player like Docherty needs all the game-time he can get. Alnwick will probably see his first team chance diminish this season too as Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham are clearly above him in Gerrard’s pecking order.
