Celtic have all but wrapped up the signing of Canadian defender Emile Legault, according to Get French Football News.

The French news outlet claims that the 18-year-old had been undergoing a trial at the Hoops after leaving Ligue 2 club Auxerre, and has done enough to earn himself an offer to sign for the Scottish champions.

It is understood that the Bhoys will seal the centre-back’s arrival as soon as some paperwork issues are resolved.

Good move for Celtic?

It’s really hard to judge whether a young player like Legault will eventually rise to prominence at Celtic Park, but he has obviously impressed the coaches after a successful trial period.

The Canada youth international clearly did not do enough to earn himself a prolonged stay at Auxerre, but that could have been for a range of different reasons.

Hopefully Legault is able to catch the attention of Brendan Rodgers with his performances for the Celtic development sides and push his way into the first team reckoning.

The Bhoys need to add some more quality at centre-back and maybe in a few years’ time, the Canadian defender could be a regular feature in the senior squad.

Likely to happen?

Judging by this report, the deal is almost done and there are just a few paperwork issues that remain.

It is likely that Quebec-born defender needs a work permit before joining the Bhoys officially, but it seems as though it will not be much of an issue.
