Aston Villa have seen a last-ditch bid for Aberdeen centre-back Scott McKenna rejected on deadline day, according to Sky Sports Scotland.

The broadcaster claimed on their official Twitter account on Friday that Villa tabled a deal worth in excess of £6million for the 21-year-old Scotland international.

However it is understood that Aberdeen have turned the offer down, with Sky Sports previously reporting that the Dons want £10million for the defensive powerhouse.

OPINION

McKenna may have been a decent last-gasp addition to Steve Bruce’s defence, but with the summer transfer window now completely closed for English clubs, there is no way that this deal is going to happen unless Aston Villa return in January. By then, Aberdeen may be willing to lower their £10million valuation of McKenna, which is huge for Scottish football. However it could also see his value soar if he continues to impress in the Scottish Premiership. Luckily for Villa, Aberdeen did not get very far in the Europa League this season so his potential transfer value will not increase as much as it could have done. Villa may want to avoid returning for McKenna though. In Scotland, he is not very highly-rated apart from by Aberdeen fans and although he is only 21-years-old, it could be quite risky to sign someone who is yet to be tested in English football.
