Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to hail defender Connor Goldson for his performance in their side’s Europa League qualifier triumph against Shkupi on Thursday night.
Goldson, who joined from Brighton as one of nine new arrivals during the summer, played the full 90 minutes of the clash at Ibrox as Steven Gerrard got his reign off to a winning start with the 2-0 victory at Ibrox.
Supporters were delighted with the centre-back’s display and made that clear on social media during and after the match.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Goldson strolled it, katic didn’t put a foot wrong either

Goldson MOTM for me.
Flanagan and katic can both defend and tackle ????Ross very good today, lapping up all the loose balls, his positioning was excellent.
Middleton looks a future star.
I like Murphy, but he slows play down
Windlass was atrocious. Morelos not much better.

Thought our defence was pretty solid tonight. Like the look of goldson and katic, Ejaria looks quality and Middleton impressed also. Windass was pish but that’s not news, tav was ok.

Our defence is a stick on at the moment, Tavernier is the captain and one of our most consistent performers, Goldson looks really good and Katic looks raw but reads the game very well, Flanagan is far from fit but still quality abs when he’s match fit he will be a star.

Goldson. By some distance for me !!. If Middleton had played longer he would have been in with a Shout. Always trying to create something

Thought Goldson & Katic were solid. Passing all round was poor but team has yet to gel properly.

COMMENTARY:
It was a generally lethargic display by Rangers in Gerrard’s first competitive match, as the players struggled to play at a high tempo for sustained periods so early in the club’s pre-season programme. But it is little wonder there was so much praise on social media for Goldson, who joined for a fee of around £3million this summer. It looks money well spent by the Light Blues, who have backed Gerrard in the transfer market in a manner that they did not with his predecessors. The 25-year-old has a good track record in the Football League and he delivered a rock-solid display against the Macedonian outfit. It should be the first of many for his new club.
